 “Care” is often control layered through product, pressure, labor, and capital. Colonized coil care teaches Black people to fight their own terrain instead of learning how to move within it. it reduces afro hair into visual categories that do not translate into care.

  • strand thickness

  • interlocking

  • environmental response


it teaches you how to label your hair, not how to understand it.

this is why people know their “type” but still don’t know what their hair needs.

The problem is the system attempting to read living terrain through static classification. “4C” became less a texture description and more a social projection loaded with desirability politics, market logic, and colonial hierarchy.
