The Bespokecurry Glossary
The Bespokecurry Glossary is a living language archive for the wata(ring) whole—a cosmology of embodiment, care, Afro futurity, ritual practice, and relational technologies. These terms name what colonial language cannot hold: how bodies carry memory, how water teaches pace, how hair remembers spirit, and how community becomes the technology of return. This glossary is not fixed. It grows as practice grows.
Bespokecurry Glossary
Bespokecurry Cosmos
The larger cosmology that holds all offerings, worlds, and practices. A living system of ancestral alignment, embodied learning, and creative production.
Adwo
Peace and tranquility. Rest as practice; stillness as clarity.
Afro Hair Tings
The field where afro hair, Black body, memory, and spirit meet. A practice space for restoring relationship to hair as sacred tech(know)logy and living record.
Animals
The recorders and spirit in living form. How we care for animals (including self) and land mirrors how we care for community.
Aya
Endurance and resourcefulness. The strength to grow under pressure without abandoning self.
Bapt(ism)
Initiation through fire and water. Entry into new in(format)ion or misin(format)ion; discernment determines what liberates and what controls.
Bitter Water
Medicine. Truth. Necessary discomfort. Bitter water awakens the body to its signals, opens pathways for release, and teaches integration. Cannabis, herbs, teas, and other practices embody bitter water — not always gentle, but always transformative.
Black Beauty School
An applied learning portal for Black salon spaces across the diaspora. Restores ancestral technique, care, and accountability in afro hair practice while unlearning industry harm and extraction.
Bleach Black
Black people who have fully assimilated and rooted themselves in anti-Blackness. The tension of identity, survival, and erasure, where ancestral depth is masked by conformity. Meant to be duplicitous in meaning in connection to skin bleaching within the colonial system.
The Cloud
The stolen and fragmented record of memory. The ancestral archive that lives in bodies beyond western documentation, awaiting retrieval.
Colonial Wild Fire
Speed without restoration. Urgency as control. Heat that scorches land, drains water, and creates The Hole through extraction and burnout.
CP ultra
Colored People’s time, extended.A refusal of colonial urgency.Moving at a pace that allows the body to arrive, process, and remain intact. Ride slow, homie.
Deep Water
Depth. Mystery. The unseen forces beneath the surface. Deep water asks you to go below performative layers and encounter truths that are often hidden, uncomfortable, or sacred. It is the source of healing, insight, and ancestral memory.
Earth / Sand / Clay
Community and foundation. Who we root with matters. Relationship must be evaluated as conditions change.
Eban
Love, safety, and protection. Boundaries as care; shelter as sacred.
(Flo)at
The practice of “I don’t know.” Turning inward to find one’s own flow rather than borrowing another’s current.
Glitch
The space where the system misfires, revealing the unseen patterns. Disruption that exposes truth, invites improvisation, and makes room for transformation.
Glitch N 2 U
A call to enter the misfire.Where systems break just enough to reveal what was always there. Moving through disruption as method—seeing patterns, improvising in real time,and allowing what surfaces to transform how you engage.
hom(e)ie
More than friend. A relationship grounded in self-home first—because there is no real “we” without an “I” that knows itself.I recognize I, so there can be we.Connection rooted in wholeness, not lack.Ubuntu, lived—not performed.
The Hole
What anti-Blackness and coloniality create: absence, extraction, fragmentation. The manufactured void that Water Tech(know)logy works to repair.
ho(u)le (hole + soul)
The space where absence meets presence. Where loss, depth, and potential converge. A site for reflection, repair, and reclamation.
Indigenous Wildfire
Sacred burn. Fire in relationship with land and water. Clears without destroying, restores pathways for growth and memory to return.
Litm(us)
A ritual praxis in Afrikan/Black embodiment within the Wata(ring) W(hole). Uses afro hair as a litmus test for internal and external worlds—revealing beliefs about Blackness, care, beauty, and the sacred. We are quite literally LIT.
Patrix (patriarchy + matrix)
The operating system of control. Where power, expectation, and obedience intersect — the invisible grid shaping bodies, minds, and histories.
Planet: The Wata(ring) W(hole)
A living world within the Bespokecurry cosmos where Water Tech(know)logy is practiced. A space for crossing thresholds with care—between self, community, memory, land, and spirit.
quee(a)r (queer + ear)
Listening nonbinary, outside categories. A practice of attunement and attention to what exists beyond normative lines.
Reverse OsMo(cis)
The shedding of binaries and colonial conditioning. Unlearning extraction and remembering ancestral ways of knowing and relating.
Running Water
Movement. Flow. Life in motion. Running water carries energy, inspiration, and connection. It reminds the body and mind that stillness and motion coexist, and that one can navigate through obstacles without breaking.
Sankofa
Go back for what was lost. Retrieve wisdom from the past to move forward with integrity.
(See)d
Something planted and nurtured, both literal and metaphorical. Also: what do you see? and how does it seed in you? The beginning of movement, thought, and legacy. The visible manifestation of soul work. What is planted with intention becomes record and growth.
S(hell)
Identity, mind, imagination—the housing for the soul. The protective forms we move through across lifetimes; some shells protect, others must be shed.
Still Water
Quiet. Receptive. The pause that holds memory and intention. Still water rests within and between us, allowing reflection, integration, and the slow absorption of life’s currents. It is the foundation for regulation and presence.
Steam Water
Transformation. Release. The boundary between liquid and air — between material and invisible. Steam water rises from heat, carrying energy, intention, and subtle shifts. It is the alchemy of body, mind, and spirit, bridging what is and what is becoming.
Sweet Water
Pleasure. Restoration. Reclamation of joy and sensory delight. Sweet water is the taste of adornment, ritual, beauty, and care. It nourishes self, community, and lineage, giving life a sweetness that is full, unapologetic, and distinctly Black.
tech(know)logy
Tools and knowledge that liberate, enhance, and illuminate. Tech(know)logy as an extension of body, culture, intention, and indigenous wildfire.
tech(no)logy
Tools and systems that disempower, surveil, or erase. A reminder that every interface carries politics, and every pattern has consequences. In direct connection to colonial wild fire.
Vanilla ice thrice
A term for white people. Cycles of influence, appropriation, and cultural repetition folded back onto themselves with irony and visibility.
Wata(rings) (Afro Hair Community Circles)
Small, community-rooted circles for consistent, non-commodified care of scalp and afro hair. A practice of reparations to ourselves through platonic, restorative rituals of care.
Water
Memory, body, and record. Water holds history and teaches thresholds—where release becomes arrival and the body remembers how to cross with care.
Water as Liminal Space
Water as threshold between states of being—where release becomes arrival and transformation becomes possible.
Water Tech(know)logy
Ancestral technologies of care, memory, and discernment. Ways of knowing through body, water, flow, relationship, ritual, and lived practice—beyond colonial definitions of “technology.”
Watter Bearer
One who carries memory between worlds. A circulator of wisdom, not a hoarder of knowledge.
The Watering W(hole)
The gathering place of all Water Tech(know)logy. A living system—never perfect, always evolving toward ancestral alignment with self, community, earth, and memory.
Wave Jump
Rising and falling, leaping over currents. The body, mind, and spirit moving through turbulence, landing somewhere unexpected yet grounded. Can be a throwback to what was or a look to what is coming. A glitched look back to the past, present, or future. A practice of flow, momentum, and foresight.
Waves / Rain / Atmosphere
Carriers of information. Discernment and heart intelligence. Reading conditions before moving.
Whole & Quee(a)r AF
A forever praxis of wholeness beyond fixed identity. TransAfrican, community-centered becoming. No part is bigger than the w(hole).
The Wooden C(u)p / The Tea
The tea is that there is none. Instead of gossip and ugliness, we meet meditation and inner listening. Quenching thirst with sovereignty, then discerning what to keep, evolve, and release.
You are the tech(know)logy
The body as system, archive, and interface. Knowledge is not external—it is sensed, stored, and processed within you.Tools do not replace this. They extend it.You are the signal, the processor, and the output.
Ecological Attunement
The practice of noticing how body, environment, plant, fungi, community, memory, and conditions are affecting one another. Relationship before intervention. Rather than asking only what does this do to me?, ecological attunement asks what is happening between us, and what conditions are shaping that relationship?
Mycelial Sankofa
A perspectival practice of returning, retrieving, and reconnecting through relationship rather than linear progression. Like mycelium, knowledge moves across multiple points, directions, bodies, histories, and ecosystems. The bridge is not enough; connection requires relationship.
Relational Rigor
The discipline of staying accountable to relationship. A refusal to confuse proximity, access, expertise, intention, or information with actual connection. Relational rigor asks what is being exchanged, who or what is being listened to, and whether the relationship nourishes the ecosystem rather than merely extracting from it.
Embodied Return
The movement back toward knowledge already held, sensed, or recorded within the body. Not a return to an untouched past, but a practice of recovering relationship with self, memory, land, ancestry, sensation, and ways of knowing disrupted by colonial systems.
Fungi Tings
The field where fungi, Black embodiment, ecology, memory, regulation, and relationship meet. Fungi are approached not simply as substances to consume, but as living teachers within an ecosystem of reciprocal attention and care.
On Da Left Hand Side of Mushrooms and Roses
The field where cannabis, fungi, Black embodiment, sensory knowledge, regulation, pleasure, memory, and relationship meet. Cannabis is approached through chemotype. While both cannabis and fungi are approached through body response, environment, ritual, and lived observation rather than strain mythology or consumption alone.
Tending
Care as an ongoing relationship rather than a single intervention. To tend is to observe conditions, respond without domination, make adjustments, and remain accountable to what is living.
The Cosmos
Shorthand for the Bespokecurry Cosmos as a living creative and relational ecosystem. Essays, images, offerings, practices, research, objects, and people may move through it, but no individual thing constitutes the whole.
Perspectival
Knowledge understood as dependent upon position, relationship, conditions, and point of observation. More than one perspective can exist within the same ecosystem without requiring one to erase the others
Bridging
Creating the conditions through which relationship can become possible across bodies, histories, systems, knowledge, or ecosystems. A bridge provides access; it does not guarantee connection. Connection requires attention, reciprocity, and relationship. A bridge is betweeen more than two points. Multi point. Mycelium.
