Symbols, Signals, and Ways of Paying Attention: Reading the Bespokecurry Cosmos

A vibrant claymation cosmos filled with floating planets, stars, symbols, books, mushrooms, seeds, water pathways, and colorful Bespokecurry Hom(e)ies exploring interconnected worlds. Bright pink, blue, orange, yellow, and green clay figures drift through a galaxy of symbols representing different ways of learning, listening, seeing, reading, eating, and moving through knowledge. Everything appears handcrafted from textured polymer clay with visible stippling and stop-motion details.
The symbols of the Bespokecurry Cosmos are not categories. They are pathways. Over time the work became too large for ordinary labels. Hair touched food. Food touched water. Water touched fungi. Fungi touched disability. Disability touched community. Community touched adornment. Adornment touched memory. The symbols emerged as navigation tools for moving through an ecosystem of interconnected knowledge rather than separate projects. Not destinations. Directions. Not answers. Ways of paying attention. The cosmos keeps expanding.

Why Are There Symbols Everywhere?

One of the questions I receive most often about the Bespokecurry Cosmos is:

“What do all the symbols mean?”

The short answer is that they are navigation tools.

The longer answer is that the Bespokecurry Cosmos became too large for ordinary categories.

Hair was touching food.

Food was touching water.

Water was touching fungi.

Fungi was touching disability.

Disability was touching community.

Community was touching adornment.

Adornment was touching memory.

And eventually I realized I wasn’t building separate projects.

I was documenting an ecosystem.

The symbols emerged because I needed a way to track movement through that ecosystem.

They help identify how a piece of knowledge is being approached.

Not just what the subject is.

But how it is being experienced.

How it is being processed.

How it is moving through the body.

How it is moving through the world.

Each symbol represents a different mode of engagement.

Not a category.

A relationship.

The core mark.

Presence.

Entry.

The body as site.

Most journeys begin here.

⟁̱

Depth.

Layering.

Accumulation.

What gathers beneath the surface before it becomes visible.

⟁|

Trans Learn Tings.

Axis.

Orientation.

Alignment within the self.

The ongoing practice of becoming.

◉≋

The body as site of knowledge.

Hair, skin, and form as signal, system, and atmosphere.

Flow.

Movement.

States of being.

The ways emotional, spiritual, and material experiences move through time.

≋✺

Ingestion.

Integration.

Cannabis as lived experience rather than abstract conversation.

≋✺̱

Layered ingestion.

Transformation beneath the surface.

The slow work of breakdown, recomposition, and becoming.

◉))

Listening.

Receiving.

Sensing vibration before understanding arrives.

The things that reach us before we know what they mean.

◉⌁

I See Tings.

Observation.

Pattern recognition.

The Body Electric.

Watching long enough to recognize accumulation.

The visible traces left by systems, relationships, and practice.

I Eat Tings.

Taste as memory.

Ingestion as knowledge.

The body processing, metabolizing, and transforming experience.

⟁≋))

Stories.

Books.

The movement of ideas through imagination, memory, and relationship.

Over time, additional symbols may emerge.

That is the nature of living ecosystems.

For now, these are the primary pathways through the Cosmos.

Not destinations.

Directions.

Not answers.

Ways of paying attention.

The symbols do not tell you what to think.

They help you understand how a particular piece of knowledge entered the conversation in the first place.

The cosmos keeps expanding.
